The Haven Project is a pioneering center for world excellence in treating people with personality disorders, by saving their lives and keeping them safe. They have an astonishing suicide reduction rate and doctors from all over the world have visited it looking for inspiration. Unfortunately, the UK Department of Health cut their funds and in three weeks they are going to close if nothing changes. The North East Essex Clinical Commission group refused to go on funding the project. Haven’s clients are totally shocked. “Before I came here nine years ago, I had 37 admissions to mental hospitals and I was sectioned over 30 times,” said a 61-year-old client.” “I set fire to myself twice. I tried to hang myself, I overdosed. I was self-harming – cutting and burning – on a daily basis. Since I came here I have had no admissions to hospital and I haven’t self-harmed. - she added - I need the Haven desperately.”
